I've got the synthetic Willie and Max and price was the biggest factor (1/2 to 2/3 the price).
When I get a 'real bike' I definitely will want to get hard shell cases painted to coordinate with the rest of the bike. ...and running lights, lots of running lights ... (not really but I thought it sounded good)
I'll echo Intrudn's remark that the Willie and Max are real easy to clean.
